In the early 1900’s, many of the initiatives that accelerated the socio-economic advancement of African Americans were launched by the centralized efforts of the black church, academia and black community organizations. As time has passed, it has become increasingly challenging for many of these groups to maintain and exert the relevance they once had in the black community.
Many of today’s movements originate from grassroots efforts such as Black Lives Matter. This new reality begs the question: who are the black leaders of today and are they still relevant?
